CYCC youth want to know…
What experience makes you qualified for your work?
My work as a doctor is based on over 15 years of medical practice, in multiple states and countries, with special skills to care for youth and young adults. I have experience creating team-based programs, working with youth to teach about youth engagement, and currently, I am helping to create more youth-friendly clinics through a state-wide initiative. Outside of medicine, I have also mentored youth in group settings since high school, such as serving as a church youth ministries director for over 6 years. I get energized when I see young people share wisdom and hope to empower more youth to apply healthy
tips to take charge of their health.
What can I expect from my patient/provider relationship with you?
Every interaction with you will focus on promoting your overall well-being by being a non-judgmental, knowledgeable, and caring doctor. I believe laughter is good medicine so be prepared to laugh at some point during our visit. I value all members of the care team, including you because you and your family have important information needed for us to make meaningful decisions about your health. You can also expect that I will make time to meet your health needs, but will not neglect to care for myself so that I have the adequate energy and mental wellness to provide the care you deserve. When my self-care involves being away from the clinic, arrangements will be made to ensure your healthcare is minimally
disrupted.
What are your hobbies/passions including a fun fact?
I cherish spending quality time with my kids and family. I enjoy rollerblading, watching comedies or suspense (non-horror) movies, eating breakfast foods any time of the day, baking, and getting people together for programs or adventures. Fun fact: I am creative by nature and I once sewed a banquet dress by hand.

I love to share my experiences with others. I arrived in the United States from Cuba when I was 5 years old with my parents as my only family, so I can relate to patients who struggle with feeling alone in a new country or feeling like they don’t belong. I am fluent in English and Spanish with some knowledge of French which allows me to care for patients of different backgrounds.

I plan to receive patients with open arms and a smile that is welcoming no matter who you are, as soon as you walk through the clinic door, connect virtually or by phone. Not only do staff need to be knowledgeable and well-trained, but it’s also even better when they are friendly and compassionate.
